Jordan Academy of Music
Accredited Private University
The Jordan Academy of Music was established
in 1989 as the first accredited private
university granting the B.A. degree in
musical science. It was founded on the
initiative of a group of private Jordanian
citizens with genuine cultural and artistic
interests, who believe in the importance of
participating in the process of building and
developing Jordanian cultural life.
Our academy has a highly qualified,
professional and long-experienced faculty
for both practical and theoretical courses,
as well as a helpful and innovative
administrative staff, all working together
to support and further develop the musical
culture in Jordan.
The aims of the academy, and in accordance
with the wishes of His Majesty the King, are
to supply the Jordanian society with
academically educated musicians as well as
to spread and promote awareness of the
importance of music for our nation's
culture. These aims are designed to meet the
country's increasing demand for both
specially educated music teachers and
professional performers.
The academy accepts students holding the
General Secondary Certificate in any stream,
provided that they pass an aptitude
examination designed to evaluate the level
of the applicant's musical skills and
abilities. In its bachelor program The
Jordan Academy of Music follows the credit
hours' system, according to which the
academic year is divided into two semesters
and an optional intensified summer semester.
Specialties
The Jordan Academy of Music offers a wide
range of practical specializations in both
western and oriental music:
1. Instrumental performance on the
following instruments: Piano, Violin, Viola,
Cello, Double-bass, Guitar, Flute, Clarinet,
Saxophone, Percussion (western/oriental),
Oud, Nay and Qanoun
2. Voice (western/oriental)
3. Musical Composition
4. Musicology
In addition to the major program students
are required to choose a minor instrument,
the piano being compulsory for Students
majoring in specializations other than the
piano.
